At The Movement Effect, we bring movement and wellness services to domestic violence shelters to support survivors on their path to healing, amplify nervous system regulation and integrate their physical health with their mental and emotional wellness
To create a world where domestic violence survivors feel worthy of the best in life and have the tools they need to thrive by living in the healthiest way possible.
Founder, Julie Turner, serves as an advisory board member and has created a movement program at the Good Shepherd Shelter in Los Angeles, a long-term shelter for mothers and children who have escaped domestic violence.
Our current program involves teaching the mom’s a body movement class once a week consisting of Pilates, functional exercise, and dance.
We also provide movement practitioners for Good Shepherd Shelter's annual summer camp serving the children who live there.
We’ve witnessed amazing transformations in the women at this shelter over the past five years and are eager to expand this program to include more classes here for the moms and children while expanding our program to other shelters in Los Angeles.
We are currently seeking Instructors (yoga, Pilates, dance, karate, mindfulness) to teach our classes and help with summer camp.
If you think our work is a good fit for your shelter, please reach out to learn more about our program and how we can get started.
Your contribution will directly benefit survivors of domestic violence by paying for services or materials needed to teach classes and host summer camp. No amount is too small!
